Today Has Been A Day

Updated: Jun 19, 2020

Today has been a day.

You know what I'm talking about. A day when everything seems to go wrong. A day when a terrible night of sleep set you up for failure. A day when the dog decided for the first time in his life he was going to pee all over the furniture and living room floor while you were in the bathroom. A day filled with stress cleaning and anxiety as you attempt to calm down.

And then after you finally clean up the apartment, you take a nap thinking your day can't get worse, but then your puppers decides to puke up a sock he ate the other night.

Today, has been that day.

I find myself chuckling at the day I have had. While it has been one of those days, I force myself to lean into what God has in store for me. God didn't create me to experience these kind of days, but He does promise me that He is strong enough to carry me through them. All I need to do is quiet my heart and trust.

I find myself flipping to Psalm 46 quite often recently. Maybe it is because I have experienced many days like today in the past month (If you haven't heard about the millennial that flooded the church bathroom this past Sunday, I'm sure it will come up in a sermon sooner or later).

Psalm 46 calms my spirit and challenges me to let go of whatever is holding me back from trusting that God is in control. Regardless of what my days look like, God is still good.

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress."

So, whatever your day looks like, or your week, trust that you can still find peace. It's the small things that go a long way.
